Leader Dogs

Leader Dogs for the Blind is located in Rochester Hills, MI.  For more information visit their website

Founded by three Detroit area Lions Clubs members in 1939, Leader Dogs for the Blind provides dog guides to people who are blind and visually impaired to enhance their mobility, independence and quality of life. Each year, over 270 students attend our 26-day residential training program to be paired with a dog guide. This is a life-changing event that opens the doors to independence, safety and self-worth for many of our students.

Since its inception, our District along with the Pennsylvania Lions support the Leader Dog program 100%.  You are invited to have our District Leader Dog Chair, Lion Jim Engel (Pittsburgh Brentwood Lions) to give a presentation to your club concerning the Leader Dog program.  He may be contacted by calling (412) 833-4267 or by EMail

Clubs making donations should send their donations to Leader Dog Chair Jim Engel, 3290 South Park Rd., Bethel Park, PA 15102.  Checks should be made to “Leader Dogs.”
