WESTERN PA LIONS EYE PROSTHESIS PROGRAM
Dr. Walter Tillman of Pittsburgh has continued the tradition of his father before him to provide at least two free eye prosthesis cases per year to needy individuals qualified by the Lions. On a case-by-case basis, he may also offer his services as a reduced rate to those with limited means or insurance coverage to pay a portion. These matters are handled primarily by his secretary Joyce.
Contact is typically but not always initiated by Joyce when they encounter someone with little or no means to pay. It is up to the Eye Prosthesis Chairperson to verify the financial need of the individual, often with the aid of Lions in the patient’s town or district. Forms used for qualifying recipients for free eyeglasses works fairly well, but the criteria may be a little more relaxed given the cost of the eye prosthesis.
If the individual comes to the Lions first, Joyce can be contacted at Dr. Tillman’s office at phone number 412-391-5005.
District Chair for this program is Lion John Aiken (Monroeville Lions) and he can be contacted by EMail or by calling (412) 856-9111 (H) or (412) 527-6921. If your club would like to have a presentation please contact him.
